  • What is the writing process, and how can I use these techniques to create a successful paper?
  • What is a rubric, and how is it used to grade projects?
Bell Ringer
  • Read the 4th set of 10 pages from their chosen book.
  • List the similarities and differences between any two characters.
Activities:
  • Take up and grade assigned pre-writes before students go to their seats.
  • Video: The power of words and action
    • What is the thesis?
    • How did he prove it?
    • What is the comparison in this video?
    • Where did the term "Bold as Brass" come from?
    • How is "Bold as Brass" figurative language? How does it compare? Why does the figurative language add so much more to the comparison?
  • Show and go over the rubric for grading the castle project.
    • Why am I showing the rubric?
    • What does the rubric show about the project and the grading process?
    • Why am I showing this project rubric right as we go into the beginning of the writing project for the grading period?
  • Explain: The importance, value and need for pre-writes in the writing process
    • Explain how the grades for the pre-write just given and returned were determined
    • Require/demand they do more
    • Focus to fully develop all ideas to the fullest extent
  • Assign
    • Complete pre-write (or do it the first time for partial credit) for more points. Have in class as before -- before they sit down.
    • Choose the topics they will write about.
    • Handout FRI graphic organizer for a compare/contrast essay
    • Assign start the graphic organizer by next class
  • Reminders
    • Test this Friday. Homework required before test.
