English 4 & 4H: 10/10,11/12

Guiding Q
  • What are the processes for successful writing?
  • How do you evaluate literature readings?
Bell Ringer
  • Read the 7th set of 10 pages in the chosen book.
  • Outline a book-talk summary for next week. This will be an oral presentation. The evaluation each group is doing on the book can include, but not be limited to, the many items we've done in the bell ringers like characterization, comparative and figurative language, setting, conflict, and more.
Activities:
  • Students got a literature book.
    • We went over pages 266 to 270 so students would understand the book process and expectations. Students can choose this way of processing the paper if they want.
  • We went over the 7 requirements for the final complete project. Parts 1-6 are worth 150 points, and part 7 is worth 150 points.
    1. Prewrite: We've done this in class, and it's been checked at least twice
    2. Choose two items from the prewrite to compare
    3. Use a Venn diagram or the graphic organizer to map all the similarities and all the differences of their topic choices.
    4. Write a clear and complete thesis statement (refer the the explanation and example in the book)
    5. Create a sentence or phrasal outline of the paragraphs (5 required, 7 maximum)
    6. Write the rough draft
    7. Edit the rough draft to perfection and turn in this perfect final paper (I must be able to see the edited differences between the rough draft and the final paper)
  • Students were given time to work on the project.
