English 4 and 4H: 9/12,13/11



  1. Bell ringer time was spent studying and preparing for the vocabulary 1 test.


  2. Students take vocabulary 1 test and turn in vocabulary homework


  3. Students show workbook pages 10 and 11 for a grade and self correct their work from the projector. Focus -- separate describers from the word they describe. If it describes a noun or pronoun, it is an adjective. If it describes any other kind of word, it is an adverb.


  4. Assign workbook pages 7, 8, 9B


  5. Start or assign reading and taking notes over pages 19 through 35 in the literature book. This is the history and literary elements for Unit 1. Students are to apply their note taking strategies to the work. A test will be given to cover this assignment. Students will be allowed to use their notes on the test, and the notes will be taken up after the test. Test date will be sometime next week.


  6. Discuss the difference and definitions for "theme" and "thesis."


  7. Read The Hobbit, starting at page 55, and go as far as time allows.


  8. Hobbit assignment: identify the themes in this section of the story.


  9. Newspaper article (did not explain in all classes equally): Underline the topic sentences in each paragraph.

  10. Students were provided with a complete list of the Hobbit assignments to date. These assignments will soon be checked, and they are to be ready!
